The firm that blogs together, stays together. Are you a superstar or a team player? When it comes to law blogs, the question is: do you have your own blog, or are you part of a team that writes a group blog? With over 45% of the Am Law 200 now using blogs, amid mounting evidence that blogs bring both publicity and business, many firms are trying to figure out the best way to build a successful blog. For those of you who have been living underground...

It’s that time of the year again: the results for the August administration of the MPRE have been released! No emails have been sent out yet, but you can log on to the MPRE Services website and check your score. How future lawyers can be tested on their ethics in a multiple choice format is still questionable to me, but who really cares about the format if you passed for your state? Check out this chart to see whether you made the grade. Obviously...

[ Law 360 ] * Professor Orin Kerr offers a more concise version of my analysis from yesterday of politics and Supreme Court clerk hiring, viewing the issue as a principal-agent problem. The last two New York Attorneys General have become wildly famous. Everybody knows who Eliot Spitzer is, mostly for the wrong reasons. Before he became Governor Client Number 9, Eliot Spitzer attained the title “Sheriff of Wall Street.” Meanwhile, the current NYAG Andrew Cuomo was already famous because of his father. As AG, Cuomo has continued Spitzer’s legacy of asserting jurisdiction over anything that will help him run for...

Please note: people get Academy Awards for acting like they can talk to dead people. Full disclosure: I belong to the South Park school of thought, which says that claiming you can speak to dead people makes you a candidate for Biggest Douche in the Universe . Even my priest, who believes that the will of an omniscient and all-powerful being can be easily flummoxed by a thin film of latex, doesn’t believe that he has a direct line of communication...

Bengals cheerleader has a short-lived victory This story may provide some good fodder for “dumb cheerleader” jokes. Sarah Jones, a high school English teacher and cheerleader for the Cincinnati Bengals , was understandably upset when a gossip website called TheDirty.com published an article entitled “The Dirty Bengals Cheerleader,” asking, “Why are high school teachers freaks in the sack?” According to Jones’s...

The Am Law MidLevel survey, released earlier this week , revealed what many already knew: the people who were able to hang onto their jobs during the recession are really unhappy. Times are tough for the survivors, and today we have more evidence. An employee in the Dallas office of Sedgwick sent an open letter to the office managing partner, Alan Vickery , and others in management. The letter expresses massive disappointment with what has happened...

Earlier this week, we discussed the discovery of potentially anti-Semitic graffiti in Vanderbilt Hall, the home of NYU Law School . Yesterday Dean Richard Revesz issued a forceful response to the law school community via email, condemning the graffiti as “highly offensive and hurtful” and declaring that “[s]uch hateful conduct is deplorable and has no place in our community.” (We’ve reprinted Dean Revesz’s message...

And if he keeps tweeting in such insightful, funny, and brutally candid fashion, his following — right now he’s at 665 followers — will only grow. Check out his latest tweet , which is a bit… impolitic:...

I’ve written a lot about the horrible reality of the student loan industry. I’ve talked about how schools have no incentive to keep costs under control, how student debt is the next “credit bubble,” and about the ridiculous fact that student loans can not be discharged through bankruptcy. But I’m not good with pictures. Luckily, the people at CollegeScholarships.org are good with pictures. They brilliantly break down...

Last week, the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) held its annual meeting at the ARIA resort in Las Vegas. I attended ILTA’s annual conference in 2009, but unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict that I call “work,” I was unable to make it this year. Ironically, in looking at all the write-ups in various blog posts and news articles, I was surprised at how much information there was on this year’s conference. Although...
